Story of this Masterpiece by Francesco Tamagno

Created in 1890.

This stunning vintage-poster has been designed by Italian painter Francesco Tomagno ca. 1890. Only a few illustrations scream Fin de siècle like this iconic motif.

In 1880 Léon Lajaunie developed a recipe for candy pastilles made from licorice and mint, after discovering that many of his patients had problems with their bad breath. His friend clockmaker L'Isle-Jourdain designed the iconic yellow metal box for the product in a way that it would easily fit it in the pockets of the popular waistcoats men often wore at that time.

As classy as it gets - is one way to describe this beautiful vintage poster advertising the revolutionary sweets. A young woman, wearing an elegant mint colored dress with a matching hat, presents two boxes of Cachou Lajaunie to a group of gentlemen. Only at a closer look does the viewer realize that those stunned looking five men aren't just random people but rather chauffeurs and cyclists. Even though it's old, this is a clever advertisement at its best - strictly aimed at smoking professionals who are in need for a good breath while talking to their customers: "recommandé aux fumeurs chauffers cyclistes etc...".

Enhance your modern home with this very special illustration of a France from back in the day. The unique color-palette will add a classy vintage-flavor to any wall your rooms have to offer and is ideal to decorate your living room, bedroom or even the hallway.

If you want to get a better idea of what this era in time tasted like, you can still order Cachou Lajaunie online.
