Story of this Masterpiece

Created in 1910.

This vintage-poster created by an unknown artist, serves as an advertisement for the 14th Lépine Competition in August till October 1910. The event held by the Association of small French Manufacturers and Inventors (FR: Association des petits fabricants et inventeurs français) has originally been created as a convention for smaller manufacturers of things such as toys but ultimately grew over the years and still exists till today!

The yearly competition is the legacy of Louis Jean-Baptiste Lépine, a Parisian inventor, lawyer and politician who is famous for several achievements from being able to control large crowds with his baton (even though he was only of small height), to modernizing the French police by introducing the advantages of forensic science for the first time. The "Little Man with the Big Stick" has also been investigating the theft of the famous Mona Lisa painting from the Louvre in 1911, that also involved non-other than world-class painter Pablo Picasso who had to show up for questioning but was later exonerated.

Beige is a typical color for vintage-prints, the combination of blue, red and white gives this particular one a very French look. This intriguing motif show a trench coat wearing an inventor who appears to be very proud of the creation he is holding in his hands, sitting on what appears to be his work desk. The collage also includes the location of the event, the Grand Palais in front of a majestically rising sun. This is the ideal decoration for your wall if you are a fan of inventors or entrepreneurs. Put this beautiful vintage-poster in any room where you want the spirit of innovation and progress.
