Story of this Masterpiece

Created in 1897.

Harry Kellar, born Heinrich Keller, was one of the most influential magicians from the early times of this compelling performance art. He toured many nations and even world-famous even Harry Houdini chose his first name after Kellar.

Before his success Kellar did not always have an easy life. Born as child of immigrants he started working at a drugstore at a young age. After a failed experiment with chemicals he burned a hole in the stores floor. To avoid consequences little Harry ran away, landing a new job as a magician’s assistant. The Fakir of Ava taught him the art and Kellar refined it to become the superstar he was.

This poster was an advertisement for his trick Self Decapitation, which was amazingly unbelievable at the time and still is performed by magicians to this day.
