Story of this Masterpiece

Created in 1896.

Originally Carmen is an opera in four acts, written by French composer Georges Bizet, first performed in 1875. The popular play in the genre of opéra comique (musical numbers separated by spoken passages) is known for its brilliance of melody, harmony, atmosphere, and orchestration.

The main protagonist of the opera, set in southern Spain, is Don José a soldier who falls in love with the fiery gypsy lady Carmen. The French audience found the performance rather controversial, and it left the stages as quickly as it entered them. It was only in 1983 (eight years after it's premiere) that the opera has been revived in Paris, after it had huge success in other countries.

This gorgeous vintage-poster shows actress/singer Rosabel Morrison in the 1896 US-American adaption of Carmen (under the management of Edward J. Abram). In the center of this artwork the playfully dancing beauty holds a tambourine in her right hand while emphasizing her hips with her right hand, creating strong vibes of a woman who knows what she wants. Carmen wears a traditional gypsy dress in light blue and a vintage scarf corset in the national colors of Spain (red and yellow). The tender rose in her hair perfects the image of a fiery Hispanic dancer, a motif so complete that it doesn't need any other elements to complement it.

This vintage-poster is the decoration you need if you want to bring some classy Latin vibes into your rooms. Add this beautiful illustration to your walls to spice up the mood and conversations with your favorite guests.
