Story of this Masterpiece by Louis Rhead

Created in 1895.

A very Fin de siècle advertisement created by British illustrator Louis Rhead. The fairy tale-esque motif shows a young lady in floral dress with a matching floral hair decoration, sprinkling what appears to be fresh lavender blossoms into the wind.

The artwork from 1895 dares the viewer to "Try Vio-Violet a new Lundborg Perfume", while drawing lots of attention with its shiny yellow primary color.

Lundborg Perfume has been founded by Swedish immigrant John Marlie Lundborg in 1850 and operated until 1954, bringing more than 125 scents to the market. Lundborg used his background in botanic and chemistry so well, that some of his perfumes have been awarded the "only gold medal given to American perfumes at the Paris exposition" (1889). This award had a significant meaning during a time when the world's most renowned perfumes came from France, England and Germany.
